Setting the remote IP address with port 8080 in FireFox on the local machine, and having the remote router forward port 8080 to the mac, I do get the request hitting the proxy, but I get the error.
I wish to develop from home with my mac, but our office only supports VPN access for windows machines. To get around that limitation, I am trying to setup a perforce proxy server on my home windows machine, then connect to it with my mac. To that end I've done the following:.
Enable VPN connection on my home windows machine (hereafter called the proxy server). Install 'Proxy (P4P)' on the proxy server, using the perforce server installer, configured to connect to the office server on port 1666 and to respond to clients on port 1667. I verify, via Task Manager, that p4ps.exe (the windows service version of Perforce Proxy) is running. On the same machine, I fire up p4v and connect to localhost:1667. I successfully connect and sync some files. Everything seems good.
On my mac connected to the same local network as the proxy server, I ping 192.168.1.100 (the static IP address of the proxy server) and get 0 packet loss. On my mac I run p4v and try to connect to 192.168.1.100:1667, but get the 'Connect to server failed' error. On my windows laptop (a different machine from the proxy server), I verify that I can ping the proxy server. Then I try to connect to 192.168.1.100:1667 in p4v, but again get the 'Connect to server failed' error. I also tried setting up port forwarding in my router to forward port 1667 to the proxy server, but that had no apparent effect. I feel like I'm close, but missing some crucial step.
Reviewing the proxy setup docs and doing some searches in this forum didn't reveal anything. Can someone shed some light on why I can't connect to the proxy server from another machine? Thanks, Rob.

You can also choose to bypass proxy settings for specific computers on the Internet (hosts) and segments of the Internet (domains) by adding the address of the host or domain in the “Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains” field. This might be useful if you want to make sure you’re receiving information directly from the host or domain and not information that’s cached on the proxy server.
